Written on back of mat: "One of the hotels where Mom was cook. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were the owners of the hotel. Margaret and her dad and Madeline and her mother are standing on the balcony. Tall girl, Blanche, was a waitress, also helper in the kitchen. The shorter girl did upstairs work . Man in white shirt and apron was the bartender in the saloon, which also sported spittoons as snuff was a common habit. No cars - buggies and wagons were the vehicles in summer, and bob-sleighs in winter. A livery stable was a short distance from hotel. One board side walk wet down the main street which ended at a quite modern looking hardware store having the sign "Wilson and Magee" ."
