Abstract
Image detailing the mechanisms of a lumber mill in Canoe, B.C. Man with hand on lever visible on left-hand side of photo. A small caption pointing toward his hand indicates he is operating a push button control panel. Further information about cut-off saws (visible in foreground) pasted on top of photo: "The cut-off saws which cut the logs into the required lengths, usually up to 6" or 7" longer than the finished length of 8' because of the shrinkage which takes place in drying. At the right is the barker. Logs are spun around on a wheeled carrier and a steel head which moves along the length of the log removes the bark. At this point the logs become known as "Bolts." Sorting of species, such as spruce, fir, hemlock, etc., is also done here."
