The amphitheatre was built in the second half of the 1st century CE and used for munera (gladiator fights) and venatio (animal fights). An inscription indicates the matron as Ummidia Quadratilla (Bomgardner, 2001: p.192). The amphitheatre could seat approximately 4,500 spectators and did not have a substructure.
