Originally a military amphitheatre. Dates to the c. 2nd century CE. Building was completed in two phases. The first phase was done in either 128 or 169 CE and accommodated 7,200 spectators, with the second expansion taking place c.176/177-180 CE, accommodating 15,400 spectators and finally measuring to approximately 7,722 m2 with the arena measuring 2,937 m2 (Bomgardner 2001: p.184-185). In the substructure are the preserved post holes in the stone that were used to raise equipment and animals into the arena (Bomgardner 2001: p.154).
