Abstract
An article profiling the winners of the 2008 Tom Longboat awards; Tom was a famous Indigenous male athlete who excelled in long distance running in the early 20th century. He was Onandaga from Six Nations of the Grand River. Also nicknamed the "bulldog of Britannia", Tom served in WWI as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Today, awards for excellence in athletic achievement are given out each year in his name. The recipients in 2008 were: rifle shooter Matt Klein (Kamloops), track athlete Alyssa Johnson (Winnipeg), basketball coach Jacqueline Lavallee (Saskatoon), and badminton coach Mike Alexander (Mi?kmaq, Kippens, Newfoundland).
