Abstract
This video is a short documentary about the 1997 Games that were held in Victoria, British Columbia. Local Coast Salish cultures are recognized and their custom of asking for permission to come into that territory is performed in the marina from large ocean-travelling canoes with beautiful Coast Salish designs on the side. There are multiple interviews with athletes, parents, organizers, and builders (such as Alex Nelson who was the Executive Director that year). The Games lasted 8 days and, at the time it was, 'the largest gathering of Aboriginal youth in North America.'
