Abstract
Late eighteenth-century map of what the expedition called "Langle Bay" from a map by cartographer and explorer Jean-François de Galaupe, Count of La Pérouse (or Lapérouse). The map actually depicts the wester part of the Russian island Sakhalin (called Tchoka on the map), probably what is now known as Tomari Bay. From a French scientific expedition to the Pacific in 1785-1788. Last contact with the expedition was in 1788, after which they were never heard from again. ?This map was published in "Atlas de Voyage de La Pérouse" in 1897., Scale at bottom reads 'Milles marines de 60 au dégré.'. Note below title: La Variation a ete trouvée de 41' Ouest.
