Abstract
Late eighteenth-century map of Monterey Bay, California from a map by cartographer and explorer Jean-François de Galaupe, Count of La Pérouse (or Lapérouse). Drawn during a French scientific expedition to the Pacific in 1785-1788. Last contact with the expedition was in 1788, after which they were never heard from again. This map was engraved by L. Aubert and published in "Atlas de Voyage de La Pérouse" in 1897. Scale at bottom left reads 'Milles Marins de 60 au Degré'.
