Prise du Mouillage de l'Astrolabe. Cette Baie fut découverte la 20 Juillet 1787 par les Frégates Françaises la Boussole et Astrolabe commandées par MM. De La Pérouse et De Langle. L'Aiguille aimantée n'a point eu ici de variation Le fond est, dans les endroits où on a placé des Sondes de sable mêlé de vaze et de Coquille. On n'a pas eu le temps de sonder toute cette Baie.

Abstract
Late eighteenth-century map of the Baie d'Estaing (likely modern-day Uglegorsk, Russia on the island of Sakhalin). From a map by cartographer and explorer Jean-François de Galaupe, Count of La Pérouse (or Lapérouse). This area was not surveyed by La Pérouse himself but likely drawn from existing maps of the area. From a French scientific expedition to the Pacific in 1785-1788. Last contact with the expedition was in 1788, after which they were never heard from again. This map was engraved by L. Aubert and published in "Atlas de Voyage de La Pérouse" in 1897.
