Abstract
Late eighteenth-century map of the San Francisco Bay region from a map by cartographer and explorer Jean-François de Galaupe, Count of La Pérouse (or Lapérouse). This area was not surveyed by La Pérouse himself but likely drawn from existing maps of the area. From a French scientific expedition to the Pacific in 1785-1788. Last contact with the expedition was in 1788, after which they were never heard from again. This map was engraved by L. Aubert and published in "Atlas de Voyage de La Pérouse" in 1897.
