The first work train came through Shaunavon, at that time a village, in late November 1913. A three level C.P.R. Station was built in 1914; Shaunavon becoming a divisional point. A contributing factor was the pure water which was used for steam engines. Shaunavon was the first village in the dominion to apply for recognition as a town, within a year of its founding, by enactment of special legislation. The town had the services of two trains daily. The station hasn't been used for passenger service for over twenty years, and it was demolished in June of 1987."
